If all that FrontPage did was to provide a great environment for building web pages and web sites, it'd still be an OK tool. But there is more to it, than just that. One of the main problems with building web sites is that most sophisticated features such as forms, site searches, guest books, hit counters etc required sophisticated interaction with the server hosting the site and a knowledge of scripting languages such as CGI (Common Gateway Interface) to have them on your pages. Also some people don't like fiddling around with FTP software in order to get their sites published on the Web. With FrontPage these features are built into the software, and if your Web Presence Provider has FrontPage extensions installed (they will advertise the fact with terms such as "FrontPage enabled" or "Supports FrontPage") you can construct professional looking sites with ease, and without having to pay someone to construct it for you. Also you've already got it, bundled with Office, so it won't cost you anything!
I don't like paying for anything (that's why I enjoy taking home a bottle of wine each Friday after the SOCOM raffle!), and have found a few sites that give you freebies for use with FrontPage. A list of free web hosting providers that have FrontPage extensions installed can be found here. (Just remember that you get what you pay for, and usually have to accept advertising on your pages.) I've used Netfirms to host a few of my pages and found them pretty good, in terms of the advertising being unobtrusive and the names of my sites are usually logical eg notebooks4teachers or my 7 yr old son's site (puppies.netfirms.com) A couple of other free hosting providers that look OK, but I haven't used are GooseMoose, Prohosting and Nelie's.
